LET ME INTRODUCE MYSELF:
My name is Georgi Petrov, a professional bartender, mixologist and cocktail consultant. I start my bartender career in 1995 in a small bar and dinner with live music. At this time I never thought I’d be doing it for all these years.
THINGS CAN ONLY GET BETTER
Forward a few years later, and I was a member of the Bulgarian Bar Association (BBA) which is part of the International Bar Association (IBA). While competing and being involved more deeply into the industry, I established myself as one of the top bartenders in the country. The hard work paid off, and before I knew it, I was busy all the time. Didn’t mind at all, but somehow I start moving away from the bar, and I didn’t like it.
DON’T BE AFRAID TO MAKE A CHANGE
During my bartender career in Bulgaria, I worked with many brands as consultant and train many bartenders. However, I needed a change. Yes, I had a great time, and life was beautiful, but saying that I was missing something. In other words, I needed a new challenge and adventure.
So, I made the decision that changes my life. I decided to travel the world and take chances on whatever comes. In 2006 I stopped everything and joined a Cruise Ship as a bartender. Being bartender on Cruise Ship is not that glamorous as you may think and involve hard work. However, the hard work is worth as you get the chance to explore the world, meet new people and find a new adventure.
A DECISION THAT CHANGE EVERYTHING
For 6 Years Cruising, I made new friends for life and visited incredible places around the world. In 2009 I moved officially to the UK, and in 2011 the cruising life came to its end. After a few years on land, settling down with my family, I am back to one thing I genuinely love. And this is not other, but creating cocktails, mixology, consulting and serving delicious drinks.
2019 CHANGE EVERYTHING
Back in September 2018, I started Just Shake or Stir as an Instagram hobby to share my knowledge, passion and love for cocktails. At this point, I didn’t know or expect JUST SHAKE OR STIR will become so popular so quickly. I was surprised to see the interest in cocktails, mixology, and how many other people want to learn about the industry. So, I decide to keep going and in the meantime get involved more with the bartender industry in the UK.
MY MOST INCREDIBLE YEAR SO FAR
During the year i submit recipes to many competitions and qualified for most of them taking part in the semi-finals and finals. With classic competition such as the ‘Vesper Martini’ by United Kingdom Bartender Guild (UKBG). On the other hand, competitions by Giffard Liqueurs, Chase Distillery, Amaro Montenegro, Angostura, Cut Rum, to name a few pushed our creativity to the limits.
Probably one of the hardest and very exciting is the Diageo WORLD CLASS Competition. Of course, I had to enter, and I am so happy to be one of the Top 100 UK bartenders in the first round. I didn’t make it in Top 20, but the learning curve and the experience I had with this competition is unforgettable.
Must to admit I am very proud of My cocktail MOON RISING created for Russian Standard Vodka. The cocktail won a competition with a price to be an official cocktail for THE BLUE MOON FESTIVAL.
Throughout 2019 I start working with many companies back to consulting, creating cocktails and shot product photography. Now, the next step is to put all together and present it as videos fo my YouTube channel.
Firstly, the plans are big for 2020. For example, I will be concentrating on filming and start teaching. That is to say; i am planning to start a YouTube series and begin introducing distilleries, products and brands. The idea is to add more about their history and behind the scenes. You never know, I may start writing a book as well.
For sure, I don’t plan to slow down and looking forward to bring more content to you with many more new recipes and stories about the industry.
